Back Country Horsemen of America Santa Fe Chapter of New Mexico, Inc (Hereafter refered to as BCH Santa Fe or BCHSF) welcomes you to browse our web pages for information on joining the BCHA, projects and rides, contact info, and much more! BCHA is a great resource for info on packing, camping with your horses, trail conditions, places to ride, and many other items of interest to horse people and outdoorsmen in general.

BCH-SF works closely with several U.S. Forest Service agencies such as the Espanola Ranger District, the Santa Fe Ranger District, the Cuba Ranger District and the Canjilon Ranger District as well as the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and county agencies.

Besides volunteer work and trail maintenance, we also go on fun rides and trips into the backcountry. Our meetings often feature a guest speaker-- such as a local veterinarian, author, or map specialist--who shares valuable information and experience with our group. The public is always welcome to attend any meeting, ride, or function of BCHSF to learn more and experience what BCHA is all about.

The Santa Fe Chapter is unique because we have such a broad area of northern New Mexico to ride and work in. Our travels take us from desert floor to trails that exceed 10,000 feet in elevation. Along the way, scenery changes from sand, sage, and juniper to mountains, pines, and meadows.

The horse has earned a noble place in our western heritage; it's usefullness and devotion have been second to none. The BCHA was formed to preserve our traditional right to use recreational stock in the backcountry. What has always been our traditional right, now appears to be in jeopardy. We believe continued horse use - in harmony with the capacity of our public lands- is in the best interest of the majority of Americans. It is our intention to ensure that horse use (including all equines) is protected by promoting wise horse use with minimum adverse impact to the backcountry.

This year, BCHSF became incorporated and gained non-profit status as a 501(c)4 entity. This was required due mostly to the new banking rules, but also most clubs or organizations that collect money in the form of dues are required as well.
